ABOUT THIS ISSUE

ORDER:

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.” - Antonio Gramsci / Slavoj Žižek

Mostly for love of creative collaboration, and a little bit to raise funds for Little Bluestem’s public works projects, we invited our friends in the wider Little Bluestem community to riff on this quote via their art and writing submissions, and this zine is the result.

In the 38 interior pages, you’ll find an array of poetry, prose, and visual art each taking their own spin on the questions and provocations we suggested regarding monsters and monstrous times. It’s got essays synthesizing themes like ghosts and revolts, insects and ethics, and tending to pain in high school agriculture classes, odes and potent poems about plants, suburbs, metamorphic processes, and wind horizons, drawings, photos, and absurdist collages depicting all manner of winged beings, self-loathing corporate monsters, portals to the unknown, and more. Something in this issue is bound to strike a resonant chord and hopefully spark meaningful conversation about the horribly interesting times we all seem to be living in.

The inner pages are printed in black and white, and the full-color cover features an incredibly rad design by our friend Noah.  We’re grateful to our wider community for these submissions and enjoyed the process of stitching all these voices together towards this collaborative art offering.

Since this is something of a fundraiser for us, pricing works a little differently than our usual merch.  If you just want a copy to read (and share with your buds when you’re done looking at it), pick up a copy for $5.  But if you’d like to help support our work and are able to pay more, there are other options available in the store.  If you’re really feeling that holiday spirit, drop us a conveniently tax-deductible donation here.  We really appreciate it, and your donations allow us to continue working on our mission in these financially difficult times.

Order now! Copies are ready for pick-up or mailing.

Finally, we are looking into shops and venues where we can distribute/sell these zines as part of an ongoing fundraising effort, so please let us know if you have a suggestion on that front!
